Best overall computer security program?

Hi,

I had a major computer problem a few days ago, and I had to reformat my computer. I was using AVG Free Edition to protect my computer, but it didn’t detect a virus that came on my computer and made a lot of things unaccessible.

I’m now using Avast! Professional, and was wondering what was the best all round security program, including internet security that stops unwanted software installing itself etc.

Thanks.

Avast Home or Professional (they are the same program to my knowledge, home is just only available for non-commercial users)

    and

    Ad-Aware SE

    and if paranoid

    Windows Defender

A hardware firewall is a must

AVG is just fine, There is NO one program that can protect you from everything. Avast is good too, for stopping unwanted programs you might want to get a firewall, i recommend ZoneAlarm its free. Also get Spybot search and destroy, windows defender is very good whether you are paranoid or not you should get it.

use kasper sky it is the best and if u sespect a virused program use the safe mode by restarting the computer 2 times or more and choose the safe mode and delete the virused program

In my opinion Norton is easily the leader in this field. I know most people disagree, even though most of them are just sheep and don’t have their own valid reason for hating it.
Norton WILL pick up all of the viruses that it knows, and it will secure windows for you. I have never personally had any problems with it whatsoever. Kaspersky, and ZoneAlarm are also good options, but they are better in internet security rather than whole computer security.

The top detecting Free Anti-Viral Software is:

    Avira AntiVir

It has Real-Time protection, Scheduled Scannings & Updates and all those great features.

    Download Link: http://www.free-av.com

    On the Paid Version side,

Its a 4-Way Tie Between Norton360 (The only GOOD Norton Product), Kapersky, BitDefender & NOD32

    Norton 360:
    Pro’s:
    >>Provides State of the Art AntiSpyware
    >>All-in-One Package WITH Computer Tune Up Performance
    >>Good Firewall

    Con’s:
    >>Uses Many Resources

    Kapersky:
    Pro’s:
    >>Great AntiVirus
    >>Average AntiSpyware
    >>Light on Resources

    Con’s:
    >>Average Firewall

    BitDefender:

    Pro’s:
    >>GREAT AntiVirus, AntiSpyware & Firewall

    Con’s:
    >>Uses average amount of Resources yet, may slow down your computer a bit.

    Eset Nod32
    Pro’s:
    >>Good Well-Rounded Program

    Con’s:
    >>A bit on the heavier side with resources

cpkid’s answer is the best :D someone is frustrated with avg and he is anyway suggesting to download avg.

None of the antvirus programs can guarantee 100% safety. Virus can be launched several minutes ago you may get infected and you cannot blame the antivirus, cause it did not protect you. It’s simply impossible.

The best free antivirus is AVG and that’s a fact. As for the best paid antivirus, it’s probably the Norton Antivirus, however, many users complain, because it slows down the machine.

Personally, I use NOD32 at work and Kaspersky and Spyware Doctor at home..

Furthermore antivirus is never enough to protect you. You also need an anti spyware and firewall..

Well, these are my 2 cents.

Zone Alarm Security Suite hands down..

It has one of the best firewalls ever built, very easy to use. Z.A 7 + version use the Kaspersky virus scan engine so that is the best of the virus scan world and it has a built in spyware scanner as well which is extremly effective.

I previously used AVG, Norton Systemsworks & Kaspersky. Zonealarm is the lightest on system resouces & very easy to uninstall (unlike norton).

The Firewall is free, if you want the security suite then you have to pay a yearly fee..

ahem if you take the freedom of information thing seriously then thefe’s always ‘information’ on the net available like serial numbers, cracks etc. ;)
