Yes, very good questions. I’ll answer them one by one:

    1. do i need a interent connection to set up a security system on my computer?
Only if you want to view the content of the security camera from a remote location. If not, then you do not need a connection.

Yes, the computer would need to be left on. The camera is viewing something and sending what it views to the computer for recording, so the computer would need to be left on. You would need to lock your computer so that nobody would delete the video.

It sounds like you want to record something indoors but not have the video deleted. You have some options here. The one you want to consider is that if you start recording and record continuously, that your hard drive may fill up. You can install software on your computer that will record when it detects motion:

You could setup a whole security system that runs apart from your computer. They can be expensive though (around $500) –

You know, you could also do an option where you buy one of those cameras that has a web server in it and is internet enabled. It could function apart from your PC and maybe send you an email when it detects motion. Check Amazon for something called an IP camera. I think they are around $100.

If your using a computer to view your camera, then you need a static IP address to view it from a different location. If you use a DVR, then you have to do the same thing, but you won’t have to leave any computer on. They now have DVR systems you can view your house or any place else from your Black Berry or I Pod
