Norton Internet Security 2010: how do I disable the program temporarily?

I am doing a troubleshooting and I am required to turn off all programs that are running in the background, such as security programs. I need to turn off my Norton Internet Security 2010 and I am running WIndows XP. I can’t find anyway to do so. Please advise with specific instructions.

Look at the bottom right-hand corner of your screen (where the time is).

Look for the Norton Icon amongst the other icons.

Once you find it, right click on it.

Choose the option that most likely will disable it.

One way is to start in safe mode, go to administrative tools>services. Scroll through the list of services and disable any that are norton related (there may be 2 or 3). You do this by double-clicking on the service, a properties box will come up and from there you change the start from automatic to disabled. Then restart you computer.

you will need to do it from safe mode because Norton will most likely not allow you to change anything while in normal mode.

    Hi Laurie H,

To temporarily disable Auto-Protect, locate the Norton icon on your Taskbar, right-click on it and then choose “Disable Antivirus Auto-Protect”. You will then be presented with a dialog asking you how long you want to disable the real-time protection. Choose the desired time for your task.

    Thank you,
    Mike
