These games saw more than 3,400 athletes compete, supported by key digital systems which were orchestrated and secured by Atos, leveraging its global digital platforms, infrastructure, and cloud orchestration expertise. Orchestrating the Digital Backbone Behind 187 Competitions

As the Worldwide IT Partner of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and International Paralympic Committee (IPC), as well as the lead integrator, Atos has run and orchestrated the key digital IT systems that helped to safely and securely deliver the Beijing 2022.

Atos provided more than 50 critical IT applications which supported the smooth running of the overall event, including 187 competitions over a month-long period. These included the Olympic Management System which supported the planning and operations (accreditations, workforce management, volunteer portal, competition schedule, sports entries and qualifications, eVoting) and the Olympic Diffusion System delivering real-time results to fans, journalists, and broadcasters worldwide. Atos also secured the IT infrastructure with cloud-based security services, including a Security Operations Center (SOC), a Computer Security Incident Response Team, endpoint detection and response, and vulnerability assessment services.

Bringing in Key Cloud Orchestration Expertise

Bring a burner to the Olympics, and other mobile device travel safety tips

You’ve probably heard some of the commonly circulated advisories for athletes traveling to the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing this year: Bring a burner phone and don’t log into any personal accounts. That’s good advice for athletes and non athletes alike, no matter where they’re traveling.

Knowing how to protect yourself properly requires knowing a bit about the threats you’re likely to face, so what should olympians, and the rest of us, plan to be wary of in China and other international destinations?

Aubrey Turner, executive advisor at Ping Identity, said spying and spyware in China are definitely a concern, but there’s more to that “bring a burner” line than just concerns over Chinese government spying. “Who knows you better than your smartphone? Think of all the sensitive data, sensitive memories, the secrets, passwords, all that stuff,” Turner warned.

“[Your device is] a living history of you. Do you want to risk that potentially being compromised?”

Cyberthreats to Olympic travelers in China

Due to COVID-19, the Olympic games in Beijing are going to be relatively spectator-free. There aren’t any generally available tickets, and only Chinese citizens will be allowed to procure the few that are selectively available. With that in mind, if you’re traveling to Beijing later this week you probably have a professional reason to be there, so it is important to be aware of threats you might encounter while visiting.

Aside from concerns about Chinese spying, Turner said that the very nature of a big event creates a target-rich environment for criminals to take advantage of. “With the Olympics you’ve got a lot of people congregating in one place for one event. So certainly, it’ll be a target-rich environment for cyber crime, people will be distracted by the games, and the like,” Turner said.

The possibility of theft means that anyone traveling to the games should be acutely aware of physical security to prevent a device, memory card or other sensitive piece of data storage hardware vanishing from a pocket.

Mandatory Olympics iOS, Android app spying on athletes for China: Report

A researcher has found that the mandatory Beijing 2022 Olympics app for iOS and Android is reportedly collecting and sending audio to Chinese servers.


According to AppleInsider, researcher Jonathan Scott had posted his findings after reverse-engineering the mandatory MY2022 Olympics app.


As it turns out, the app is capable of spying on Olympians and attendees and sending the audio to Chinese servers to be analysed, the report said.


MY2022 is a non-optional app that must be used by both athletes and attendees of the 2022 Winter Olympics.


The app is designed to help reduce the spread of Covid-19 and act as a central hub for information on events, weather, travel, and points of interest.


The App Store listing claims that the app does not collect data, though Scott has shown it does. The app doesn’t employ exploits or security holes, the report said.


Instead, it actively listens to all audio and sends it off to servers based in China, it added.


If the app is moved to the background, it will force itself to the foreground to ensure it has permission to listen in, claims Scott.
