We found a Walmart Cyber Monday deal on a powerful cordless Dyson vacuum. The Dyson V10 Absolute cordless vacuum is just $400 during the retailer’s Cyber Monday deals event.

The Dyson V10 Absolute cordless vacuum boasts the title of most powerful suction of any cord-free vacuum (tested to ASTM F558, against cord-free stick market). With a run time of up to 60 minutes when using a non-motorized tool, this lightweight cordless vacuum is engineered to pick up both large debris and fine dust.

“In my 40 years of cleaning, I’ve never had a vacuum so light weight that has the power that this machine has,” one reviewer raves. “I have a one-year old and can get all of my cleaning done while he’s asleep because it’s so quiet even when turned on max.”

Neowin can’t vouch for this laptop in any way. We are simply reporting on the fact it looks like the specifications are good for the price.

On a personal note, I’ve recommended similar Gateway laptops from Walmart (i3, 8 GB, 250 GB SSD) and they run great, with minimal bloat. Most of the preinstalled apps consisted of a game on the desktop, Norton internet security, and Firefox.

Walmart sued by FTC over large-scale money transfer fraud • The Register

America’s Federal Trade Commission has sued Walmart, claiming it turned a blind eye to fraudsters using its money transfer services to con folks out of “hundreds of millions of dollars.”

In a lawsuit [PDF] filed Tuesday, the regulator claimed the superstore giant is “well aware” of telemarketing fraudsters and other scammers convincing victims to part with their hard-earned cash via its services, with the money being funneled to domestic and international crime rings.

Walmart is accused of allowing these fraudulent money transfers to continue, failing to warn people to be on their guard, and failing to adopt policies and train employees on how to prevent these types of hustles.

The FTC wants the courts to order Walmart to return the money to victims and make the corporation cough up penalties for, in the regulator’s view, breaking the FTC Act and Telemarketing and Consumer Fraud and Abuse Prevention Act.

“While scammers used its money transfer services to make off with cash, Walmart looked the other way and pocketed millions in fees,” said Samuel Levine, director of the FTC’s Bureau of Consumer Protection. “Consumers have lost hundreds of millions, and the Commission is holding Walmart accountable for letting fraudsters fleece its customers.”

Walmart, unsurprisingly, has a different version of events.

“This lawsuit is factually misguided and legally flawed and Walmart will defend against it aggressively,” a spokesperson told The Register.

“Claiming an unprecedented expansion of the FTC’s authority, the agency seeks to blame Walmart for fraud that the agency already attributed to another company while that company was under the federal government’s direct supervision,” the company added in a canned statement.

“Walmart will defend the company’s robust anti-fraud efforts that have helped protect countless consumers, all while…

Chase Bank, Walmart, T-Mobile, Home Depot, Louis Vuitton, and MORE — Top Scams and Phishing Schemes of the Week

This week we’ve found a large number of scams that you need to watch out for, including ones relating to Chase Bank, Walmart, T-Mobile, Home Depot, and Louis Vuitton. Would you have been able to spot all the scams?

Phishing Scams

Phishing is one of the most commonly used tactics by scammers. Conventionally, while impersonating famous brands, they send out fake text messages and emails containing phishing links and try to entice you into opening them with various lies.

In such phishing schemes, the links lead you to fake log-in pages that appear to belong to various brands. These pages require you to submit log-in credentials to download a software update, change account settings, or whatever other tasks the scammers have asked you to complete. Here are some examples:

Chase Bank

Did you receive a text message from Chase Bank that says your account is blocked due to “suspicious sign-in attempts”? Don’t click on the link!

Scammers pose as Chase and send you such fake alerts, prompting you to click on the embedded links to verify your Chase account. Below are some other fake Chase text messages we’ve detected:

  • CHASE BANK[ALERT]: Dear customer, we have BLOCKED a fraudulent charge attempt on your DEBIT CARD. your DEBIT CARD has now been temporarily suspended kindly go to link to verify and re-activate {URL}
  • CHASE-ALERT: For Your Account Safety We Restricted Your Debit/ATM Card Due To Unusual Activity, To Restore Follow {URL}

The phishing links will take you to a fake Chase log-in page. All the credentials you submit here will end up in the scammers’ hands — they can thus hack into your Chase account. Don’t let them!
